Under the immediate direction of a

Security Supervisor, or other University

Police personnel as directed, performs

a wide variety of security and parking

functions to ensure the safety of

persons, protect property, maintain

order and enforce the rules and

regulations of the University.

Dependent upon assignment,

observes, recognizes, and reports

conditions that adversely affect public

safety or University policy. Issues

written Security Failure Notices and

University Parking Summonses.

Temporary Staff Appointment - Hourly

Minimum Education and Experience:

For entry-level positions, no experience is required. For all other positions,                                           requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent experience                                                                             depending on the duties to be performed. May also require a valid driver’s                                                                                 license and two years driving experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:      

Previous security/parking enforcement  experience preferred. High school

graduate preferred. Requires valid driver’s license, two years of driving

experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving                                                                            Course. Requires the ability to effectively communicate in English, both in

writing and via two-way radio. Also requires the ability to walk or stand for

extended periods of time. Must be able to successfully complete the NJ

CUPA Basic Security Officer Training Class and maintain applicable

certification as required. In accordance with New Jersey State law, applicants

must agree to undergo and authorize the University to conduct fingerprint,

criminal history and/or child abuse record checks with various law

enforcement agencies, including but not limited to, the Federal Bureau of

Investigations, Identification Division and/or the New Jersey Division of State

Police, Bureau of Identification. Applicants must also assume any cost 

incurred by the University associated with the background investigations whether required by statute or not. Any criminal record will affect consideration of a candidate’s application. Shifts may include weekends and evenings as well as outdoor assignments in all types of weather.
